How this works

Before we go further, here’s how Companion works.

Worth two minutes. It sets out what the companionship is, what stays between your child and their companion, and where the limits are.

What the companionship is

  • One dedicated psychologist works with your child for a month, with 24/7 access to their companion over that period.
  • It’s a relationship rather than a course of sessions — the point is that the same person stays with them.
  • You get coordinated parent support alongside it. It isn’t a diagnosis, and it isn’t a replacement for ongoing mental health treatment.

What stays between your child and their companion

  • Your child’s individual conversations stay between the two of them. That privacy is what makes the relationship work.
  • You’ll hear how things are going and what would help at home — a sense of direction, not a transcript.
  • One exception: if there’s an immediate risk of harm to your child or to someone else, the companion is required — ethically and legally — to act to keep people safe. This is explained to your child too, in their own terms.

Where the boundaries are

  • The companion holds professional boundaries throughout, with senior clinical supervision behind them.
  • Nobody records the sessions.
  • Your child can pause or stop at any point, and so can you. Nothing happens as a result.
